GABE
...Meyen's son has been accepted to McGill University and the University of British Columbia. He plans to go to UBC to study Philosophy and Politics. (Wala kuwarta nga hanapbuhay.)
MINI-REUNIONS
Etic, Tim, Dot and Jore had a mini-reunion recently in Manila. Andie celebrated her Feb. 17 birthday with Pinky and Bambi in Manhattan. Of course we have mini-reunions over the Internet every weekend, via YAHOO MESSENGER. The usual suspects are Pinky, Belen, Andie, Meyen, Etic, with occassional appearances by Rachel and Easter, and one time Tim. It would be nice if more people could join us - at 12 noon Philippine time - Saturday, 12 midnight Sunday New York time, 10 p.m. Sunday Texas time and 9 p.m. Sunday Seattle time!!! (7 a.m. Saturday in Istanbul).
ONLY ONE
...of Etic's kids seems to have inherited the MEDICAL gene. His son J. Victor is into theatre and film, and Vince is a visual artist!!! Jing and Vince seem to betray Etic's true love: painting!
KUNDIMAN NG SENYORITA
...is described as the world premiere of DAING NG SAGING DANCE THEATRE PROJECT.
"It explores a new movement design called 'Puppetry of the Body' by eliciting the extremities as 'puppets.' (In this production), experience the space of plastic, sensuality of skin, the marriage of digital music and folkloric tradition, with the testosterone-driven choreography of an all-male dance ensemble, their energies exploding to their arm and leg puppets as their bodies move fiercely and tirelessly, only to be still and to seem invisible before your very eyes."
Set design, video, music and direction by J. VICTOR VILLAREAL.
Movement design by JEREMY DE LA CRUZ.

MORE FROM "PAPEL"
Here is an excerpt from J.Victor Villareal's "Papel" - an "operatic monologue" adapted from "Romeo and Juliet." J.Victor, or Jing - directed and wrote the music and libretto for "Papel."

New Iloilo Airport now ready for test flights
Senator Franklin Drilon along with Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza on Friday led the topping ceremony of the almost completed New Iloilo Airport Development Project (NIADP) in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan area.
The new airport which is of international standard is expected to start commercial operations by April this year.
Other officials like Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas Rafael Coscolluela, Representative Arthur Defensor of the third district, Governor Niel Tupas Sr., and Air Transportation Office Manager Allan Java also joined the activity. The group aboard a convoy of vehicles toured the airport's 2.5 kilometer runway and then had a glimpse of the airport's state of the art passenger terminal.
NIADP project manager Eduardo Mangalili said the entire structure is 97 percent completed and will be ready for test flights in the next few days.
Upon seeing the progress of the works, all Drilon could say was: "I feel fulfilled."
Drilon along with then Governor Defensor was very instrumental in the initiation of the project.
For Defensor the NIADP is a "dream come true." "After all the troubles, problems and challenges we now see the fruit of our hard work," Defensor said of the new airport which was initiated during his term and was implemented during the time of Governor Tupas.
Secretary Mendoza, on the other hand, expressed that the new airport would spur the development of Iloilo and the entire Western Visayas. "Aside from passenger traffic we also expect a big volume of seafood cargo going direct to countries like Canada and the United States," Mendoza said.
Equipped with modern equipment, the NIADP which will be operational 24 hours a day could accommodate bigger aircrafts like Airbus 330 and Airbus 340 and even Boeing 747. Mendoza said initially the airport would accommodate domestic flights but it will be opened to international flights later.
Disposing old airport site
Meanwhile, the Asset Disposition Committee (ADC) of the Department of Finance is now on the process of disposing the existing 54-hectare Iloilo Airport site in Mandurriao district which will eventually be closed when the new airport starts operation.
Drilon said ADC will open the property for public bidding. Initially, the senator said, the proposal is to develop the old airport site into a second urban center in the city of Iloilo. This means the area will be converted into a commercial complex. Drilon, however, warned officials of the Air Transportation Office to ensure that the airport site will not be intruded by squatters once it is already vacated.
Need for stable energy
Further, Drilon expressed the province's need of a stable power supply to complement the expected entry of investors in the city and province of Iloilo.
Drilon noted the present problem on energy as the province is dependent on power coming from diesel plants of the National Power Corporation. Drilon said there is an immediate need to attract investors in the power sector to address this problem.

RONA
Our Rona (forgive the possessive, Bam, and Bing and Bert) is a highly accomplished young woman. She was one of the Board topnotchers for accountacy, got a job with the prestigious Sycip and Velayo and then was courted by a high tech firm in Singapore, Agilent. (Rona actually stayed with Dot when she was in Manila). Her husband Tony is a politician and - I believe - a gentleman farmer (?) Anyway - they met in Singapore when Tony was visiting his cousin (or sister?) who is a friend of Rona's. The rest, as they say, is history. No news as to Rona's plans job-wise, or Tony's future plans. We will be happy if the first order of business is to give Bing and Bert a grandchild!!!
Speaking of which, we may have more grandchildren on the way.
Stay tuned.
